Day Dreaming

As I get through another week, my mind can't help but drift back to our trip to Florida. Ben and I celebrated our two year anniversary with a trip to the spa, a leisurely walk around town, and Sangria at an outdoor cafe. I may not be there anymore, but I can relive it with these pictures. Have  a great Tuesday!

Mother's Day

Mother's Day is a time to celebrate your relationship with your mom. This year, my sister Cindy, my mom, and I were all in Florida at the same time, so we were able to celebrate together. We took our mom out to lunch and then jewelry shopping, where she picked out an amazing peridot and pearl wrap ring. We had a great mother-daughter day, I love you, Mom!

Living Succulent Wreath

There is so much that I love about being on vacation at the beach house; all of the time to relax, visit with family, work on projects, and write new blog posts. This trip, I already picked out the project I wanted to work on with my mom, inspired by Pintrest.

A few months ago, I pinned a gorgeous picture of a living wreath, made of succulents. Since it is becoming a trend among us frequent "pinners" to pin projects that we never actually intend to try, I decided it was time to do something about it.

This living wreath is such an easy and fun project! If you already have potted succulents, you can cut off some of the blooms, leaving about an inch of stem, and when you replant them they will take root and grow again. We had a great time picking out which ones we liked and creating the wreath.

~ these wire wreath frames worked as our structure ~

~ we filled the frames with soil and lined them with moss, which works as a net ~

~ carefully, we stuck in the plants, and secured them with moss and wire ~

~ these home-made wire stakes worked to pin down the loose plants ~

~ the finished product is a breathtaking piece of living art ~

*If you are brave enough to try this at home, leave the wreath laying flat for about a week, watering regularly, to allow the plants to take root. Post questions in the comments below if you want more pointers. Happy planting!

Cheers!

We are loving our trip to Florida. Last night, Ben and I went to this great local beach restaurant, The Upper Deck for dinner and drinks. We discovered that in addition to their awesome seafood, they make really delicious martinis. They were so pretty I just had to share. Cheers!

Home, Sweet Home

After a very busy and hectic couple of weeks, Ben, Sophie and I have finally arrived in Florida! There is nothing better after a long work week and a 9 hour drive than arriving at my family's beach front house in cozy New Smyrna Beach. We arrived last night and Ben, Mom, and I went to a little wine tasting, then met friends out at this great open-air seafood and pizza restaurant. Man, it's good to be home!

A New Life for an Ugly Chandilier

As many of you know, Ben and I are in the process of upgrading some of the fixtures in our home. See this post for what we've done so far, and stay tuned for a new post on our progress. When we removed the ugly gold chandelier in our entryway that was straight out of the 90's, I decided to disassemble it and give it a new purpose. Now it sits on the old trunk in our dining room with a collection of other items, as a kind of terrarium.

To The Arctic

I don't typically talk about my day job on this blog, but this I just had to share. I am the special events coordinator for a children's museum with an IMAX theatre. This week we held a Pre-Release Viewing Party for our newest documentary, To The Arctic 3D. Our special guests were the producer of the film and his wife who is a children's book author. I had a cake shaped like an iceberg surrounded by cupcakes to mimic icy water, and created a blue "Glacier Punch." There were educational but fun activities and we even had artificial snow in the courtyard for the kids. What a fun event!
